Darc's Elaborate "Choose Your Adventure" - Actual Post

So, a very rushed first chapter. Any complaints, please direct them to my current lack of sleep.

"Hey... Wake up!" A distant, unfamiliar voice cries out.

"Nnn..." Our hero, garbed in a heavy cloak, moans in discomfort at this intrusion in their nap.

Eyes slowly opening, a blue haired young man can be see across a table, making an unsettling smile on his face. His eyes are perpetually closed.

"I know this is your first time meeting me, but I can 'see' a lot of untapped potential in you, kid. Maybe you won't fail me this time. Who knows." The young man makes quotations with his fingers as he emphasizes the word "see." He shows a look of exasperation.

"You're talking as though we're old friends when we've only just met."

"As I said, this is your first time meeting me. In my case, this is the fifth time I've met "you", you see." He chimes across the table, pouring some tea from a pot that seemingly materialized from nowhere.

"So... Why have "you" called "me" "here" , Mister...?"

"Isaac. My name is Isaac Cornelius Nocturne, or if you want to be like the second instance of "you", you can call me "Doctor". And, as for why I called you...? Well, I was bored, saw you one day, and decided to offer you the standard "Isaac likes you" package."

"Mmhmm. And what benefits does this package entail?""


He smiles, slowly sipping his tea. "Pretty much anything your little heart desires. And I only have one favor to ask in return."

"And what might that be, Mister Isaac?"

"All I ask is that you live. I can't be specific, but if you make a wrong decision in the coming year, you and plenty of other people will die. And well, this is the fifth time I've tried to warn you, to little success with the previous four."
He says, opening his eyes. One is a dull, faded yellow, unfocused on the world in front of it. His other eye, other than being blue, was no different. A sly smile draws across his face.

"Now eh, you mind telling me if you've got a pants bulge or a shirt bulge?" He says, barely holding back laughter.

"Excuse me?"

"Sorry. You see, I can't tell exactly what this instance of you is, since you went and muffled your voice out with whatever you're wearing. And my eyes aren't as good as they used to be." His smile widens and a laugh escapes his mouth.

"Huhuhuhuhuhuhuhu! Sorry, I couldn't say that seriously. But anyway, are you a guy or a girl?"

Our hero lowers the hood on their cloak, proudly proclaiming...

Notes: This was modified from the original idea to accommodate the whole branch concept.
Also, I'll have a few bonuses later. As for Isaac's sprites, they'll be added once I'm done shopping them.

Also, any comments and suggestions are okay here. I only plan to write a chapter every week or two.

OMG I have been trying to write one of these for the longest time but can't seem to do it right please keep this up cuz i love these kinds of things!

Crappy rhymes aside, anyone want to toss some names out for our two unnamed characters? Cause otherwise, I'm liable to write up some really crappy names.

I'll take anything over my initial idea of just headsmashing my keyboard and using the result as a name. Even Galactic President Superstar McAwesomeville, which is a very awesome name.

Edit: I made a name for the protagonist. What do you think of it?

This typo is courtesy of Dragon: akthuughim. That is my name suggestion.

Heavily considering that name. That's the sad part. Now we need a forename for our protagonist and a separate name for the unfortunate loser of the poll.

"I'm a guy!".

Isaac gives a sudden look of surprise. He's suddenly caught up in his own amusement again.
"With a name like Rainbowgirl, I'm left to assume your parents didn't love you very much."

Rainbowgirl was slightly offended by this, considering he never even met his parents. Try to tell him how I got stuck with such a name, I guess... He thinks to himself.
"Well... Um... You see... I kinda... Got my name from a raffle."

Needless to say, this piqued Isaac's curiosity. Who on Earth would pull their name from a hat?

"A raffle? Why'd you do that?"

"Some random game Master Darc decided to play with the unnamed orphans, myself included. Never understood why, to be honest."

"Ah, yes. Darc has been rather flippant as of late, if memory serves correctly... Anyway, before I sidetrack myself, will you aid me in preventing this incident that I've come to warn you of?" Isaac asks, a tone of seriousness entering his voice that seems entirely unfitting.

Without skipping a beat of his heart, Rainbowgirl stood up.
"Naturally! Isn't it the place of a person to help those in need?"
He pumps his fist into the air to show his resolve.

More enthusiastic than the last one. Admitedly, it was pretty interesting how she immediately know how things would end if she refused to help. Isaac thinks to himself. He realizes that he should at least give this one a fighting chance.

"I think I'll stick around with you for a while. I'm a walking encyclopedia of this world, and I'm quite certain you'll need my help eventually."

"Are you sure? Not to offend, but your eyes are pretty noticable. I don't think I could get anywhere discretely with you following me around." Rainbowgirl shows a look of concern on his face, even though Isaac can't see it.

"You needn't worry yourself with me. I'll be fine." With that, Isaac's body compressed into a small wisp of yellow light that flew over to Rainbowgirl.

"Only you'll be able to see me while I'm like this. I'm sure that resolves the problem."

"Alright... So now what?"

"You'll wake up in bed, having completely missed your classes. I cannot tell you the ideal course of action, but I'll list your options when you need them."

Rainbowgirl suddenly felt lightheaded as the room he and Isaac sat in faded to black.

The sound of wind beating against the window of his house pounded in his eardrums.

It was time to wake up...

what no girl branch? -__-

J, I'm currently working on a male branch, as that got the most votes. Since I'm working on the male branch in both text form and RPG VX Ace, you can expect the female branch to be worked on should it win the vote on the next playthrough. (It probably will)

It should also be noted that upon completion of an ending for both genders, I'll begin expanding on the VX Ace Project to make the CYA available for everyone without me needing to write it out every time a new game is to be started. Also removes the frustration of walking into a Bad End that takes several entries of suspense to reach.

how many different endings will there actually be?

Here's what I plan, though please note this is subject to change.

2 Perfectly Good Endings for each protagonist.

2 Horribly Bad Endings for each protagonist.

5 Good Endings for each protagonist.

5 Bad Endings for each protagonist.

2 Perfect Endings for side character

2 Horrible Endings for each side character.

1 Gag Reel for each side character.

Various ingame "Books" that will alow you to get character bios, backstory, all that good stuff that nobody cares about on their first playthrough.

A Battle Engine practically incorporated into the game.

There was a sudden tapping on Rainbowgirl's head.

"Do you only ever sleep?" Isaac's voice pipes up as he continually bops Rainbowgirl on the head.

"Well, gee. Thanks, mom."
A swift hand stroke is made to swat Isaac away, but Rainbowgirl's hand passes right through him.

"Whatever. I suggest you get up soon. You already missed class, in case you already forgot our conversation."

Isaac drifts away, presumably to blindly feel his way around every nook and cranny of Rainbowgirl's humble abode.

"Wait...If I'm late... RATH'S GONNA TAN MY HIDE!"
Rainbowgirl leaps up from his bed as though he was struck with lightning.

Running into the kitchen, Rainbowgirl begins to recite his morning routine in a panic.

"Igottaheatupsomefishcantgowithoutbreakfast."

He's stopped dead in his tracks to find all of his fish haphazardly strewn out onto the table and completely devoured.

Isaac's tiny glowing form turns towards Rainbowgirl, a sudden red flush coming over the glowing yellow mass.

"Oh... The fish was for breakfast..? Sorry..." Isaac slowly says with incredibly forced guilt on his voice.

Rainbowgirl noticeably sighs to express his frustration. No time to dwell on it now… He sprints over to his closet and grabs some clothes.

"Mind turning for a second? We're not exactly family, you know."

"Aw! Big brother~! I want to see all of you~!" Isaac teases as he floats back towards Rainbowgirl's bedroom.
He navigates surprisingly well for someone who claims to be blind.

Rainbowgirl quickly throws on his change of clothes, along with a heavy jacket, a pair boots, and some warm gloves.

"Can't show up unprepared..."

Rainbowgirl reaches into his closet again and pulls out a false back. Pulling from it, a hatchet, well worn from use and an iron hunting dagger.

Placing the hatchet in its shoulder-slung leather sheath, and hanging the dagger from his belt, Rainbowgirl returns the false back to his closet.

"Come on out! I'm ready!"

Isaac comes flying to Rainbowgirl at top speed.

"So, what're you gonna do?"

"Well, since someone ate my breakfast, I could further delay myself by going to the store... Of course, I could just skip out on breakfast and hurry to meet Rath and see if he's still willing to teach me anything... I could also stop by the local park and see if anyone I know is there. I'd be even later, but they might cover for me..." Rainbowgirl lists his available options.

"Noted. Here's the short version of your options..."

[Go to the store, be a little late]

[Stop by the park on the way, be a little late]

[SCREW BREAKFAST! Run straight there]
