I like the story. And the bounty hunters are awesome.

Okay I had to rewrite this because somehow when I finished and tried to hit send I ended up going back a page and losing all my progress so here goes nothing.

Motion controls aren't bad persay, but they aren't often done well. I like to think of the Wii as an experiment to see if there was a market for motion controls. The idea was cool and when it was first announced everyone was like "Oh that's new and cool." A lot of the time it was implemented lazily or just tacked on with a feature that was completely pointless and could be done just as easily with a button

Here I'mm just gonna comment on Nec's list

I love NMH. This I would argue has pretty good motion controls, although not really all that necessary. The big thing though is that when you do the finishing swipes and slice open that sack of blood, it's so damn satisfying. Although the normal sword combat is just tapping A which is kind of a bummer.

sadly I never played Mad World so I can't judge but it looked okay
4.monster hunter tri (not the only way of controling actions in the game but still)
again never played but the fact that you don't need those controls to play it makes it kind of gimmicky and pointless

I don't think this implemented motion controls very well. I mean the sword didn't swing with you. The whole game I just held it up and waggled it back and forth. Didn't really add anything. I mean yeah I guess they had the aiming thing, but at times that seemed more frustrating then just using an analogue stick.

It was built around showing off motion controls so yeah I guess

I haven't played this but as a mini game collection I reckon motion is in there alright. By the way, why can you play as koopa and shit but NOT DONKEY KONG! WHY DID THEY TAKE AWAY DONKEY KONG? I DON'T WANT HIM AS A SPACE! I WANT TO BE THE GIANT MONKEY MAN! FUCK!!!

Yup.

I'll admit that they're good games with motion controls, but for quite a few of them it's completely pointless. Some of them have versions without motion controls that are great like Twilight Princess and No More Heroes. It ends up feeling tacked on at times and only put on to make people feel like the motion controls were worth it. They always advertised it as feeling like you're actually IN the game, but I've felt more absorbed in games like Mass Effect and Arkham Asylum then with these motion control games that love to remind me that the battery is dying or that my wrist is tired.

Now Microsoft and Sony have jumped on the bandwagon ( after saying that this was a shitty fad that would fail ) seeing that it rakes in the big bucks. With the Kinect and Move one must question the idea behind it. Clearly it was made to target the casual demographic that Nintendo has been winning over since the Wii launched. However now those families already own a wii and providing that they aren't rich bastards, they aren't going to jump to have another console in the house along with the add ons for motion. With these cheap gimmicks Sony and Microsoft have begun alienated their hardcore fanbase as Nintendo had done with the wii for its first few years. Now we see a turnaround. With the WiiU, Nintendo has ditched that gimmicky motion bullshit and are trying something new AND they showed off all the third party support with games that appeal to the audience they had been losing and the other two big companies have begun alienating. It's actually kind of genius since if Nintendo does this right, they'll still have the casual market in their hands as well as regain the hardcore gamers that are being alienated by the other two in their attempts to take the casuals who are again, already in Nintendo's pocket. Wow, I really got off track there. Guess I'll move on

Anyways, Kinect was a pretty bad idea. Nobody was begging for gaming without controls. It severely limits what you can do in such games so their only appeal is the casuals that are already taken. We have gimmicky minigame collections like on the wii and lousy games meant to cash in on the product. The one place the kinect shines is dance games. Dance Central is a ton of fun and can really bring life into a party. However dancing games alone aren't enough to sell the kinect at its current price of $160US.

Not much to say about the move other then it's a wii remote with a glowing ball on it and more accurate controls so we can just move on.

Next I guess I'll actually get on the subject of star wars kinect. Here we have a game that in a way, people have wanted or ages. When the wii was first showed at E3 years ago, the first thing on everyone's mind when seeing the control was "OMG LIGHTSABER!!!!" We waited in hopes that this game would come. Sadly that never really came. There were star wars games on wii, but they were also on xbox and ps3 while also not having the motion controls we desired. Finally today we're like WOW MOTION CONTROL STAR WARS FINALLY! Then we find that it's on, the fucking, kinect. The game without a control. Nobody feels like they're "in" the game with kinect because you're so frustrated trying to do things that aren't dance moves. the wii remote or move would be great for this because they can be used like the handle of a lightsaber, while here we have a game without controls so you're just holding the air. That just isn't the same. Another issue that's all over the kinect and apparent here is moving. It's hard to integrate walking around with kinect because there's no controller to set movement too. You can't really make it work by moving your feet cause you have to largely stand in one place. What we get is an on rails lightsaber fighting game. What makes no sense to me is the soldiers running to their deaths against you. Stormtroopers have guns, so why the hell are they running up to the master of melee combat? It makes no sense at all. This game is crap, end of story

In the end, motion controls aren't used well and largely stupid, Nintendo may be marketing geniuses, and star wars kinect is stupid

oh and star wars itself is awesome and was revolutionary in movies and yatta yatta yatta Bobba Fett is the awesomest character to ever not really do anything and all that jazz

I think Nintendo are the only people to have done motion gaming well and you can argue that because it's like 6 years old now and they did it first they were allowed to have a few screw ups.

I definitely prefer the Wii to the Kinect or the Move (The move sucks beyond all belief and really is just a bad afterthought to some games).

Although I stand by my first statement. Star Wars sucks.

Actually Commander I Have to disagre with you with the kinect it was in no way a bad idea. Microsoft just marketed the device in the entirely wrong direction at the casual market. the thing is microsoft made an extremly powerful device (The thing can dot map 3d space with a IR laser and is able to detect at least 2 people and track their motions with a skeleton.) but dis sweet f-all to it. I wasnt untill some people realised the innate potential of the thing created some 3rd party drivers that people could tap into it. As such people have done amazing things with it like motion control programs of course, create 3d objects just by waving your hands and some guy used 3 of them to make a 3d scanner. Microsof finally relised the potential of the thing and created a proper SDK and drivers for it as well as releasing a Windows only kinect that has some tweaks making it able to detect people at a closer range then the xbox version. So dont say the Kinect is crap blame microsoft for tapping into what it can really do.

(EDIT: The starwars kinect gale is the most horrib;e thing ive ever seen. Ive seen two short videos and as far as im concerned they should gather up all the copies and burn them.)

I agree with you there, but those 3rd party programs and things for it aren't exactly what you'd call a game. For most games it's just a lousy idea but I never said that the kinect itself was a terrible piece of hardware in terms of its potential ( then again calling it crap is largely the same thing now isn't it? I guess I meant that the way it's been used is crappy. I dunno ). People have made some cool programs with it and such, but that's not so much a game as it is some sort of toy. The kinect could have been much better if it was just sold as a toy that one could make and download software for instead of a device meant for video games. If they'd advertised it like that and intended for it to be used in that way, it wouldn't be looked on with such disgust by many as it is now.

Most motion gaming is just a fad now anyway (I'm not including the Wii in this because it's an actual console, like a PS3 and Xbox, I am including the motionplus though). The first time someone gets one they're like "Play ALL the games." Then after a day or two when the novelty wears off those games sit in a corner gathering dust. The Kinect is probably the worst for this because in some games it implements jumping (which would be difficult if you live above people or if you play in your bedroom) because jumping usually means landing which can be quite loud.

Using it for voice detection sounds good, though. FUS RO DAH!
