BEN Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, I woke with a fright
As something was stirring in the middle of the night
The pie-guns were hung by the stocking with care,
In case the old salesman had followed me there.

The computer was switched off and locked with some chains
I was armed to the neck with cakes and candy canes
With lights on in the hallway, attack dog on my lap,
I'd just settled my brain for a long winter's nap.

When down in the kitchen arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
To the pie-guns I darted, grabbed hold of a mask
And loading said pie-gun was no easy task

I checked out the tree, a gun full of pie.
Wasn't sure it would work but I'd give it a try
When, what to my horrified eyes should appear,
But an Elegy statue that filled me with fear

With a little old salesman, so giggly and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be some trick.
They didn't attack - were delivering presents!
Was it simply the season that made them so pleasant?

"It seems you have met with a terrible fate!
Too bad that for you it is simply too late.
But never mind dearie; we won't take you today;
We're late with the presents and slow with the sleigh!"

They ran through the window, it took them two tries,
BEN gave a wave and took all the pies
But I heard him exclaim, as we finished this rhyme,
"You shouldn't have done that; leave a cookie next time!"
