A Pained Heart


A heart in pain

Is pain without equal.

A pain that doesn't go away

A pain that is intolerable

And yet we must endure it

The only way we can relieve it

Is the one thing that is forbidden

That one thing that would require more pain

We must cause this same pain to another

In order to relieve our own

If we should cross that line

We would cause that same pain

To someone we consider a friend

The painful desires of the heart

In conflict with the restrictions of our minds

Why does it hurt so much

How long must it be endured

How much longer can it be
